Fuelling your Festival: Nutrition and Recovery Techniques

Thanks for joining my workshop! 

I wanted to share a breakdown of what we discussed and the recipes taught (and a few extras). 

We all come to this festival seeking magic, connection, and unforgettable experiences. However, I know firsthand that without proper care and nourishment, our ability to absorb and embody this enchanting atmosphere can be hindered.

Below are my tips to equip ourselves with powerful tools and knowledge that will revolutionize how we approach festival nutrition and recovery and our body's EXPANSIVE ability to heal. These tools may be new to some of you, and they may initially seem foreign. However, I assure you that they are not only accessible but also incredibly easy to integrate into your festival routine and lifestyle - I am a walking example of the body's ability to heal itself.

By delving into the possibilities of nutrition and holistic wellness, we unlock a realm of limitless potential. Our goal is to be the life of the party, to immerse ourselves fully in the magic of Lightning in a Bottle. And to achieve that, we must nourish our bodies, energize our spirits, and cultivate a state of vibrant well-being. The tools and techniques I'll share below will empower you to do just that.

As I shared in the workshop, I have been recovering and THRIVING from an autoimmune diagnosis and created my mission around this work. I am the co-owner of Pure Joy Planet, a nutrition-based culinary school that designs programs, retreat experiences, and cooking classes that solve the problem of unhealthy eating and mindset habits and lack of knowledge about nourishing food choices. We empower individuals and families to take control of their health by teaching them how to prepare and enjoy delicious, nutrient-dense meals that support a vibrant and fulfilling life while meeting everyone where they are at.

Here is my essential recovery and optimal health protocol at a festival (and every day!)

AM Protocol:

  • Warm lemon water + pinch of mineral salt (Celtic or real salt) + Adrenal tonic like this one - for hydration and adrenal balance
  • Seed based Probiotic and/or enzyme blend (on an empty stomach to balance microbiome and cellular clean up)
  • Glutathione (at least 20 minutes away from food) like this one which is our master antioxidant and responsible for all things liver health and detox
  • First meal: focus on quality protein and high antioxidant superfoods like spirulina, chlorella, cacao, hemp, chia seeds, goji berries, or other super berries)

For Immunity

  • Oregano oil (3 times a day for no more than two weeks, or once a day for maintenance)
  • Liposomal vitamin C (like this one), twice a day
  • Elderberries and other super berries/flowers (like in the Adrenal Elixir recipe below)
  • Burdock, dandelion, yellow dock tea for liver health/immunity
  • Nettle tea

Hydration

  • Adrenal Elixir (recipe below)
  • LMNT throughout the day to stay hydrated optimally and keep electrolytes balanced)

Before Bed

  • Chlorella tabs (like these)
  • Magnesium (like this blend OR this one)
  • If feeling unwell, take charcoal with a large glass of water

AM After

  • Repeat AM protocol and add chlorella for greater detox support
  • Protein-rich foods: Include protein-rich foods in your post-party nourishment routine. Proteins help repair and rebuild tissues, support muscle recovery, and provide sustained energy.
  • Blood sugar balancing foods: cinnamon, nopal, wild bitter melon, or my favorite blend 

Focus on:

  • Sunshine (10 minutes in the sun to reset circadian rhythm and rebuild serotonin)
  • Breathing exercises or 10 minutes of breathwork (wim hof or somatic breathwork(
  • Rebounding (jumping in place or on a small trampoline like this one for 3-5 minutes to move lymph stagnation and promote toxin drainage)
  • Anything that gets you sweating to get toxin drainage out of the body
  • Take naps! Wear an eye mask + ear plugs and, put on binaural beats or meditation, and rest for 30-45 minutes
  • Focus on adrenal health - the motor of your body - if adrenals are weak, the body will not recover, blood sugar issues will be present, and gut issues will persist. Using an adrenal support tincture like this one, along with proper mineral/electrolyte hydration, and addressing big stressors in your life, grounding daily

Avoid

Processed seed oils (canola, vegetable oils) or fried foods, processed sugar, gluten, and most conventional dairy: which cause free radicals, oxidation, and greater inflammation in the body, hindering your body's ability to create immunity and cell turnover. These also compromise the gut and nutrient absorption which is KEY to optimal health. Gut health=energy.
